April 2026 - News & Goodies

Dear Reader,

if you think asking for help with your sexual and intimacy issues is hard, you're absolutely right. The average couple waits 7 years to seek any support, and even then it can take months to build up enough trust with your practitioner to start talking about the real stuff. So much of it feels embarrassing, it's extremely vulnerable, and the smallest whiff of misunderstanding can shut things down. You're incredibly brave for considering it, and I mean that sincerely.

Here's an alternative statement that is also true:

If you think asking for help with your sexual and intimacy issues is hard, try being the practitioner at a networking event. 🫣 My era of what they call "community-based marketing" has begun, which is another way of saying I'm hitting up a bunch of local spots and MeetUps. Reactions have so far included furtive glances, a bunch of throat-clearing, and in the rare best case, some genuine follow-up questions.

I wrote a little more about it on my blog:

➡️ Why do we need Relationship & Intimacy Coaches?

Well, why aren't there more already, and what would be possible if there were?

This month's YouTube video is about the difference between knowing your patterns, and actually doing something differently. It's about recognizing when you're being driven by a part, instead of leading from Self. It's a brief and incomplete introduction to Internal Family Systems (IFS), and comes with an invitation to Live Office Hours as well as a coupon code.

Here are the highlights:

Sign up for Live Office Hours, where we'll do a parts mapping exercise and a demo (if there's time), here: https://www.dorisfullgrabe.com/events-1/april-office-hours-live

The first 50 people who use code IFS15 can book an IFS coaching hour for €15 here: https://www.dorisfullgrabe.com/shop (might have to scroll down a bit).

In other news, the IFIO (Intimacy from the Inside Out) course, where I'm learning how to use IFS with Couples is progressing nicely, and I've also signed up for "Dream School," the 12-month program to learn about interpreting dreams, run by This Jungian Life podcast. So far, so fascinating.

What have you been up to lately?

Sending hugs,

PS: Interested in something more tailored to you and your relationship, but not ready for coaching? I'd still love to support you! Here are some resources you might find helpful (links):

Dear Reader, if you've been reading my notes for a while, you know I have an intellectual crush on Lisa Feldman Barrett and her theory of constructed emotion. (I blogged about the overlaps I see between her, Jung, and Damasio here.) Her latest paper argues that our brain's fundamental operating principle is prediction - and not just for emotions: The brain doesn't perceive the world and then categorize it. It categorizes first, using predictions rooted in somatic processes, and then uses...

Dear Reader, I'm running an experiment this year which is basically a course in expanding relational intelligence - for free. I publish a new video on my YouTube channel every month, and then invite you to talk about it (or anything you like regarding Type and relationships) during free office hours. Here's February's video, where we explore how to break free from frustrating relationship patterns by shifting the focus from changing your partner to understanding and disrupting the...
